LPF’s Updated Peace Deck

A new version of LPF’s Peace Deck is now available online for download. It now consists of four sets of cards that offer you a variety of helpful biblical and contemporary peacemaking quotes, as well as leadership, advocacy, and discipleship insights. Use the deck to deepen your vision of peacemaking and to encourage your actions for peace. Use the deck to bring the gospel vision of Shalom -- peace, justice, community, wholeness -- into your everyday life!. It's a compact way to meditate in the morning, on a grocery line, on a bus, or at bedtime. May peace be with you as you grow in Shalom!

World Food Day

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.
The World Food Day theme for 2012 is "Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world".  It has been chosen to highlight the role of cooperatives in improving food security and contributing to the eradication of hunger.
Interest in cooperatives and rural organizations is also reflected in the decision of the UN General Assembly to designate 2012 “International Year of Cooperatives.”

International Day of Nonviolence and the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi

International Day of Nonviolence was declared by the United Nations to be marked on October 2nd, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and a pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. Recent gains we’ve made in addressing both domestic and international hunger and poverty face their worst threat from Congress in years - just when a devastating drought is set to drive up food prices everywhere. The House version of the farm bill proposes deep cuts in world hunger programs – as well as in food stamps (SNAP) and aid to struggling rural communities in the U.S. Take action now

International Day of Prayer for Peace

The International Day of Peace 2012 and The International Day of Prayer for Peace, are observed widely on Sept. 21 in congregations and at the ELCA Center in Chicago.  This year the UN has chosen the theme of  "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future"

LPF and the ELCA offer a variety of peace prayers and other resources that can be used throughout the year. We have a bulletin insert, and other resources and activities below to make this a meaningful and useful experience for all.
